To me it looks like a video edit matching the lights up with the song, but there are light sets that pattern to music.

It's done with a controller called Light-O-Rama, which controls the timing. So yeah, it's real, and in real time.

i admit that i haven't done any background on this, but i've seen several vids of this house. it just seems unlikely.
and maybe it's just a video thing, but it seems there is a suspicious shifting in the background lighting, primarily seen during the parts where the lights are flickering rapidly.

My guess is that it's a trick our brains play on us. Remember this?
Where A and B are actually the same shade, and only look different in comparison with the surrounding colors.
My guess is that the strobe effect with the lights creates a similar optical illusion.

The fact that it's rendered to video comes into play there too.
