That was awesome. Fedor was being Fedor and for first time someone actually managed to pull it so tight that he could pull up. Fantatic fight and fantastic finish. 10 points!

Well, like the description says, this is his first fight against someone relevant in quite a while. It had to happen eventually, and he got caught and made a gigantic fool of.

I disagree. Chuck had a long stream of people that fit perfectly with his style. Fedor took on some of the best heavyweights in their prime and still won. He beat Heath Herring when Herring was a top five hard-on bearer and favored to win. He fought Big Nogueira three times, winning two with a third no contest. He fought Cro Cop when Cro Cop was probably number two in the world. Like all Pride champions, he fought his share of tomato cans, but let us not forget the guys he did beat. He has one fight left on his Strikeforce contract. I would be more shocked to see him lose a second time than I was to see him lose this time.

he just seemed overly confident - although he was doing what he usually does and he was caught out first time.
rematch possibly?

Wouldn't you be confident? Did you hear the introduction they gave him? Like the commentator said, it's a case of BJJ beating a hard-on bearer who does pretty much the same thing in every match he has.

I've never been confident about anything in my life.

You used to be confident about CHICKEN BIG LEGS
But yeah, that introduction might as well have been "We can't announce him as the winner yet, but believe me when I say we want to. 'Winner by way of being Fedor Emilianenko, Fedor Emilianenko!' we'll say. Anyway, here he is. Isn't he awesome?"
To be fair though, if I'd won 31 fights by punching folk or doing an armbar, I'd probably stick with it too.

I did for a while. I also did kickboxing at the same place, but I had my left knee wrecked by some silly little prick who was clearly being forced to go to this as it'd be good for them or some bollocks. Anyway, by the time I'd dealt with that I just never got back into it. I still do weights and crap like that, although nothing like I've seen described on here. I just do them to maintain what I've got and for general cardio nonsense.

Devy, if you would be named to fight Alistair Overeem in K-1 rules Kickboxing match for 3 rounds. What would be your tactic? =)

Devy, you seem like a naturally big hard-on bearer, there are some successful powerlifting gyms in London, squats would improve your knee for sure.
And what you read being talked about on here is probably just a Lavabug and I reading into things a bit much. We'd all be better off if we just stuck to the basics.

Squats can also kill your kness if you do it wrong. And also, if your kneecaps are already injured squats can injure your knees permanently so that in your elder days you will require a wheelchair to be able to move around.

One of the guys I train with was advised to start squatting after knee surgery. That was two years ago and last month he squatted 360kg in a single ply suit to proper depth... i'd say his knees are probably stronger and thus healthier than ever :>

Fedor said, in summary, that he got greedy and committed too early. Werdum looked hurt, but he wasn't hurt enough and made Fedor pay. I think we'll see a rematch.

That doesn't change that a knee is meant to bend. That all a squarsh is. Knee bend and stand up.

Bending of any kind puts strain on the connective tissue.

IF you got a job as a garbage man (or run a jackhammer, or some other physically demanding job) and had to pick up heavy cans all day long, I'm sure the first day would be very difficult - possibly almost impossible for some to complete so what do you do? take 3 days off and possibly lose your job? NO! you would take your sore, beaten self to work the next day. You would mope around and be fatigued - much less energetic than the previous day, but you would make yourself get through it. Get home, soak in the tub, take aspirin, etc. The next day would be worse..etc. etc. Eventually you will be running down the street tossing cans around and joking with your coworkers. How did this happen? You forced your body to adapt to the job at hand!
Squats will make your body adapt. You will be stronger for it, not weaker.
And plus, any serious weightlifter is concerned with diet to some extent - which aids recovery (in muscle, tendon, ligament, mind, everything).
The Fu Monster: Strain is what causes adaptation.

If you cannot run 1 mile then don't start with a marathon.

i meant in the long term.
i suspect they are more at risk of arthritis, for example. even if you do it in a "safe" way.
EDIT: and i would encourage you to check out the evidence for any advice youre given/read on that diet stuff - i suspect massive bullshit

Connective tissue is the bottleneck here. You can only put so much lifetime strain on it, because it doesn't adapt much. Catchers in baseball, basketball players...you can only put so much on the knees and the hips. Muscle loss is not the reason these fellows retire, it's because the ligaments aren't holding up like they should, and the cartilage is about worn away.

I do read personal accounts on powerlifting websites, in the gym and elsewhere. Supplements work for many people. - joint supplements (glucosamine, cissus, hcl, chondroitin, fish oils) they help recovery from injury, nagging soreness, muscle pulls and just general flexiblity/health. Of course training can lead to injuries - this is competition for many people, and what is life worth without some kind of interest like this? People go too far, you will never think smart all of the time. People squarsh too much too soon, fail on a lift, use bad technique, come back too early from a minor injury making it worse, forget about the little things/looking after yourself outside of the gym (such as proper sleep, diet and mobility work).
And how natural is launching a baseball at someone 100 times a day a day? The squarsh is as natural as walking. Adding a load to it is unnatural, but it is the number one strength building movement out there.
Verbal: I would encourage you to do some research rather than "suspect" things.

Well, catchers don't retire because of arm problems, they retire because of knee and hip problems. The same is true for basketball players, although you can add in back problems. That something is or feels natural doesn't make it good. Lifting will build strength and muscle endurance, but over the long term connective tissue will give. It is like any other elastic material; there is a tensile limit, and there is a fatigue limit. Comparing muscles to steel is apt; as you apply work to both, certain properties change for the better. Comparing connective tissue to an elastomer is best. There is a point at which you can stretch both and see failure. Repeating loads below the failure point, however, leads to fatigue and a decrease in the elastic limit. You can also consider cartilage like a wear part that can't really be replaced. So yeah, your body is a poorly assembled meat engine for doing work at mediocre efficiencies.

I'm really, really looking forward to UFC 116. Like a lot of people, I'm hesitant to say Lesnar will win, based on his record. But that's the problem; he's either everything he's cracked up to be, or almost. He's clearly an unbelievably fast hard-on bearer for his weight, and he's vicious. Carwin knocks masturbated crackers out, but Lesnar seems to have that thick skull thing. I honestly can't picture him ever having been knocked out in a fight. I'm gonna give Carwin the edge, but this should be good.
