I find it annoying

I only find it annoying when idiots try and record bands on their cell phones.

1. I don't want to watch the entire concert through your stupid iphone

2. most of the time the recording quality is awful.

3. you're a cunt for thinking otherwise and blocking people's views



If I see someone filming with a hand held camera (or even a tripod which sometimes bands will let fans do) I could care less - especially if they put it on youtube later!

I don't get it either, unless the venue itself has some rule about it that the band has no control over.



I think the only thing a band has to lose is exposing would-be concert goers to a series of poor performances, which is the band's fault anyway.



If a band I like is on tour I usually skip the show because I've already seen them plenty of times, they don't ever change their set list, it's obvious they're just phoning it in, or they're playing in some backwoods venue that takes forever to get to.



Granted, I'm assuming bands don't like youtube footage because they think it plays a major role in preventing people from buying a ticket to see them live.

The vast majority of the time people are just ejaculating over these recordings.

I didn't need to watch the video to learn that.



Morbid Angel and Nile have rather severe taping policies, too.

Are they afraid that someone is gonna put cell phone footage of a show on eBay or something?

I've honestly never heard of Morbid Angel's, but I know Karl is a total douche about it.

that used to be the argument against photos and videotaping and bootlegging in general but since youtube became a thing and since the user is not making money (unless they have an obscene amount of viewers) it's kind of a moot point and a very silly one at that.



plus while cell phones are taking better and better photos I don't think they have the audio quality that a good handheld will have.



I've looked up videos of shows i've been to - particularly larger concerts and it's pretty obvious what was recorded on a cell phone vs a handheld camera.

My old band opened for MA in 1999, and their road manager Dieter was adamant that I not use my video camera to tape them--he had to watch me put it in my car after our set. During the next tour, they announced from the stage that only three songs could be filmed. I'm not sure what their current policy is.

Trey has (or had) a handful of fan videos on his myspace video page for a long time. I think he even referred to a few of them as instructive for what he was looking for in a new second guitarist (Antwerp videos?).

Trey gave that vhs tape I have to my fellating lover (our mutual buddy, Shitty!) of the videotaped Poland show. I tend to think he generally doesn't mind.
