This really bares no resemblance to the book and also looks lame because you can be sure its gonna be all spectacle and no horror.

Brad Pitt went way out of his way to buy the film rights for this; so far, he seems to have pretty good taste, so I'm gonna trust him. With the way the book's written, this could either go very right or very wrong.

Well he seems to have steered well clear of 'how' the book was written (oral biography) and what it was written about (mostly small personal incidents) Looks to me like its a case of beating a square peg until it reluctantly fits in an Emmerichian round hole.
