I finally set up a bank account the other day and while conversing with the banker I told him that I don't trust banks and I only was doing it so I could cash my checks without having to pay money for it. His reaction was of

Bank accounts over here in the anus of Europe cost around 15-17€ a month to maintain if you've got a debit card. Bullshit like I've never seen. Fortunately no one aged under 26 or over 60 has to pay said fee though.

Whoops, I meant 18€/year. Still bullshit though, paying to be able to use your own money. I used to have a credit card and it cost me 30€/year on its own but that was 2-3 years ago, probably more expensive now.

I remember I got 20$ when I opened my bank account in the US, right off the bat. Had I continued working at the CVS I worked at for another year I would be making as much as my sister in these parts, who's a lawyer with 15 years of experience. walmart supplied me with a debit card i could load/unload money onto with no fees attached - i can still use it even though i quit
