Dick Proenneke was the fucking man. He basically headed up to wild Alaska, cleared land/built a log cabin by hand, and then lived a fairly primitive lifestyle in relative solitude for a few decades.

The full version of this is fantastic - much better than this preview. I've been meaning to buy the DVD for a while, but it shows up on PBS so often that I haven't gotten around to it yet.
