I'm not sure how formula one cars are built, to be honest, but that seems the most likely cause. If it were a bad wheel bearing or hub, that could cause it as well, but for only one wheel, unless both failed simultaneously.



That's my best guess though, as I said I don't know how they are constructed and how the drivetrain/suspension/etc differ from your average everyday vehicle

Apparently the reports said it was a suspension failure, the wishbone collapsed causing the front wheels simultaneously exploded free of their mountings.

Formula 1 is awesome. When bad things happen, they tend to happen spectacularly.

The cars are better, the drivers are better, the tracks are better, and the races are much less "managed" than in Nascar. I bet Formula 1 has redneck fans, but they're Italian and Canadian rednecks, so it is difficult to know.
