well, i see no reason why one couldn't be super efficient with spending with even the lowliest levels of teaching positions. i'm kind of friends with a band teacher who does the said. 15,000 a year, smart spending, cheap food and shelter, health care benefits, save 2,000 of it and go crazy in thailand. 4,000 for bills and loans and an extra 3,000 saved for retirement and emergency needs.

Yeah plus the fact that is all theory. It never works out as simple or as easy as it does on paper.

yah its probably naive planning, but still possible if one decides to be disciplined about it. although being a fan of fine dining, i'm sure the the temptation to spend 200 dollars a week at fine restaurants would be strong. *a nod to bison's last post* also, i'm planning on winning the lottery.
