that map is also questionable in its usefulness. as best i can tell it's derived from BMI statistics culled from CDC surveying, which is problematic for a couple of reasons. for one, they've used BMI as their proxy for measuring obesity, which right off the bat is rather flawed as an indicator of anything, let alone a measurement of obesity in the general population. second, since that BMI information is obtained via telephone questionnaire (as are all other variables in the CDC's annual study) they are subject to skewing due to strategic responding.

I just did a BMI to myself and I am slightly fat

those bmi calculators are bogus. you have to take into account your bone structure and your muscle mass.
