Almost a goddamn year unemployed thanks to the t.rump scientist layoffs
Got a near-ideal remote job while staying in incest adventure park. Finally gonna get to save for a while and get ahead in life.
Getting back to a 9-5 routine again is probably gonna sting for a bit though.
I hope no one here got laid off in the last year, because trying to find a job right now sucks ass.

congrats lava, i hope the job is awesome and ticks all the boxes. you did well taking care of your mental health over the last year.
after doing combinations of remote work and consulting for ten years, i'm now teaching history and media, and have become a slave to the school timetable. it's rough. but the holidays are good. i get 11 weeks per year paid leave (but can't choose when to take them). and i only actually have to teach like 28 hours a week, the rest is planning and development time. i'll see how this goes, it's the best thing to do when i'm stuck in australia for family reasons. though right now i'm in thailand. nearly two years now of being split between the two countries, ugh.

Ty all. It's in geophysics research and the people I work with are all really cool with similar backgrounds to mine.

Definitely way better than the other job offers I got in the last 2 months (military stuff I had no interest in and a major pivot to IT services down in Florida, which also was unappealing largely due to the cost of living).
A year of unemployment has certainly led to some bad habits and outlooks that I am hoping to remedy soon. Shit hurts your self-esteem after a while.
