yes, as a result of what is very likely the dumbest strategic blunder in recorded history. i think the US is fully evicted from the middle east when the dust finally settles

things are going to get very interesting very quickly

i am not particularly looking forward to that

yeah. these absolute fucking rubes sincerely believe all the propaganda meant for the public about america's invincibility, and that they can simply buy their way out of any problem. they're trying to manipulate the futures market to keep the price of oil down. good luck. and they've been talking a big game about 'reopening' the strait via the navy, which is a guaranteed suicide mission.

do you think it's just theater that they're pretending they didn't think there would be disruptions in the strait? are the people in charge really so incompetent they don't try to anticipate the unknown unknowns?

no, i really don't think it's theater. every indication from the very start has been that they are flailing and just winging it as they go. they are still yet to articulate a single tangible war aim or how it could be achieved, and the timeline has been shifting on a daily basis from the jump. and nobody in the west - either the officialdom or state media is willing to acknowledge that timeline is no longer dictated by the US, and that it is iran who decides when the conflict ends and on what terms. the market action indicates that investors do not understand anything about oil's role in the global economy. total mass delusion.

to be clear though, none of the current trajectory could reasonably be considered unknowns - iran's many advantages in a regional conflict have been well understood for many years, and the idea that the US' air defenses gave it dominion over the region was decisively put to rest back in june. these people are just too stupid and arrogant to even bother with the 101 level analysis.

it's been a very strange information environment, US-israel aligned outlets are all very heavily brewed/blacked out, and the coverage that does exist is all just as delusional as the administration itself. so mostly you have to cobble together a better picture through foreign sources, independent analysts, and navigate all the pitfalls that entails.

all that is to say i guess it's not too surprising it took a while, my observation has been that mostly nobody is talking about it much and doesn't seem to know how to interpret anything that's going on.

anyway yeah allegedly they're mobilizing a bunch of personnel from okinawa. i think there's a nonzero chance this turns into a soft military coup, hard to imagine the navy actually following the order to go into the strait into certain death.

yes. It's not that they didn't anticipate, it more-so that they actively ignored the advice of people who did anticipate exactly this.

It wasn't exactly a big secret either.... Iran boasted that this was basically their plan if they were ever attacked. shocking.

I kind of figured you know who would have shown up with their insane (propaganda fueled) take which I would have gladly responded to.

sarded making the thread myself.

I will say, the majority of people I've spoken with in my personal life and seen elsewhere online are absolutely not okay with this stupid fucking war. Most people all have the same "what the fuck?! WHY?! There is no reason for this!" reaction to it. American politicians are also getting absolutely roasted for their support (or complete inaction) over it.... so public perception is not positive. This ain't Iraq or Afghanistan. Not to mention, the absolute mockery of spending billions of dollars in a matter of days while being told we can't afford social services for the people here and the total disregard for human life. and as already discussed briefly in this thread - the absolute boneheaded move of creating an economic choke hold on a vital resource(s) that absolutely will have an impact on global trade and stability for not only the nations involved, but for everyone else as well.

This is the kind of shit that could straight up start another world war if another superpower decides to get involved, that's how fucked the situation is.

i doubt china or russia would intervene directly. they don't really need to, we're burning through the entire empire's stock of arms on a doomed campaign. iran will suffer immensely, but they'll probably succeed in driving the US out. without its guarantor, israel probably functionally ceases to exist as a going concern, or has a very dramatic transformation imposed upon it. meanwhile russia can probably increase its ukraine tempo. china is free to move on reclaiming taiwan and has a freer hand to consolidate power in its sphere. this could open the door to korean reunification in time.

i don't know, i could be wrong of course, i am speculating wildly. or it feels wild compared to the world we have always inhabited, but i think these outcomes are actually quite plausible now. between the oil shocks that are building up and about to start tearing through the entire global economy on the immediate horizon, and the high likelihood of an imminent and very rapid rebalancing of imperial power across the globe, i think there is a reasonably strong chance we're going to be living in a very, very different world in a couple years.

Regardless of which way this goes, it's pretty much a given that the geopolitics of the world are rapidly changing. The West is in decline, and has been for a while now.

In modern times at least when the British empire declined they had the rest of "the west" to lean on. Even with the fall of the USSR, many countries could relay on the west for assistance. But those days are over. The Americans have alienated all their closest allies with trumpco.... When we go, we'll be on our own. But the people who were responsible for this will be just fine, they'll have their wealth and pillage our resources and sell it off to foreign powers whatever remains of the husk - they're already trying to do so with mining rights in various states to foreign powers....

As for the future of geopolitics - 20-30 years ago if someone told you with complete seriousness that China would be the next global superpower, you would have laughed at them. They thought the same about Japan in the 80's and that didn't pan out, but China has gotten their fucking act together.... they've been nation building around the world for years now, securing resources abroad in exchange for helping other nations build out their infrastructure. Eventually they'll be looking to expand their influence further if there is no one to counter them. And as you said, the West has declined, not just the USA either. And everyone in the west is always worried about Taiwan. They don't need Taiwan.... if they took it, it would only be because they could. If China decides to get involved with this Iran business either directly or via proxy.... shit will get ugly reeeeeeeaaaaal fast. They don't even even need to back Iran or Israel/USA - Saudi Arabia and the UAE are already at odds with each other over competing foreign policy/influence, regional dominance, and religious practices. All China would have to do is pick one to back.

I don't know who else is really in a position of strength at the moment. Russia is a fucking joke whose only strength seems to be espionage. The middle east is not and perhaps never will be a united front, and even the major players there all rely on the west at the moment. sigh, I don't know, iIm just ranting here. Maybe we'll all be blindsided and the next world power is actually a giant meteor.

Strange world you seem to live in. NATO - an alliance of European and American militaries, exists to defend against Russia. Russia has the 3rd largest military budget after US and China, and the fourth largest military by head-count. They are currently at the cutting edge of warfaring strategy, and the only ones in a REAL ground war at the moment, acquiring experience in drone warfare, electronic jamming, robotic killing machines, defense and offense.

Presently, on the Ukrainian theater, they are effectively fighting against the entire might of NATO minus its actual ground armies. If it was not for this support from NATO, Russia would have taken over Ukraine in the first few days of their invasion. The drawdown in military supplies NATO has faced because of this has necessitated European countries to pursue the greatest re-armament of modern times (800 Billion Euros worth) to replenish their stocks. If Russia was a joke like you say, why embark on this rearmament?

Russia is the only country that can wipe Europe AND the US off the face of the earth if it ever came to it with their nukes. But Lummo here thinks all they can do is espionage. Really funny.

No, there is no such propaganda of the CCP that there isn't a population growth problem. They not only acknowledge the population issue, but are taking society wide measures to tackle it, including trying to increase domestic consumption, provide security for retired or older populations, promote marriages and financial assistance for raising children.

the replacement-level fertility has plateaued, but china still has one the largest population on earth. they basically experienced what other developed nations have when citizen's life and economic well-being improved and women had less children.... but also compounded by their now expired one child policy and preference for males. It does make you wonder where the country would be had they not implemented that policy.

the main potential checks are the markets which are still spellbound by the US propaganda whose whole purpose is to prop up markets to ensure the war machine keeps grinding along. we already know that a severe global depression is locked in even if the conflict wrapped up this instant, but it is forbidden to acknowledge that materially

and military command who have no interest in suicide missions, and who are being systematically purged and replaced with more loyalists who are happy to feed their charges into the meat grinder

it is an unwinnable war waged by a hard-on bearer who truly has no understanding of the stakes at any level and who thinks hollywood is real

The social contract is gone. All semblance of orderly conduct vanished. US being fucked is a foregone conclusion but I worry that a dangerous example has been set for the rest of the world that no matter how much money and power you have, you can still elect a complete retard that blows up their own economy, antagonizes half the world with trade wars (or military aggression), and faces zero consequences because they're well liked by the ruling class, while working people just roll over and take it up the ass.

I read somewhere that Denmark of all places is now dealing with an organized oligarchy trying to disproportionately influence elections following the American model. Various right wing demagogues across the Americas and Europe are trying to be flat out clones of T. I foresee a lot of countries going down a similar embarrassing path if folks don't nip it in the bud early.

That's not it's only purpose. It's purpose is also to regroup and prepare to launch a follow up attack. In the case of Iran, their single minded focus during this period should be on acquiring defense systems to shield against bombs after the ceasefire ends.

I think it's just Israel lobbing bombs right now, not the US. And Israel has declared it does not see itself as a part of the ceasefire. Which could very well be how the US sustains the conflict going forward. However that would leave the strait closed, thus negating an important condition of the ceasefire.
