AI [music]

Was wondering if that might be a direction that some artist might start doing. As far as my knowledge, most AI videos get demonitized on YouTube. Which leads me to my next point. Is this considered the spirit of music going forward. Im skeptical.

Thought?

yeah i concur fully with lummo & zim

certainly everyone who matters in the world wants LLMs to take over all cultural production, and have spent billions of dollars just on influence ops alone to convince everyone that it's inevitable. the problem is that it has an inverse relationship to processing power and resource consumption, the more advanced it gets, the more it needs and thus the more it takes away from everyone else just to keep its own lights on

the crash is going to be really, really ugly given its coinciding with... everything else going on in the world. i think we're going to be pining for the halcyon days of the GFC/dotcom eras

At this point a crash seems inevitable. The companies behind AI are severely over leveraged and they haven’t come anywhere close to generating the profits nor efficiency that they sold everyone on. You can only ride debt for so long before people start to bail… I’m sure some tech bros will get rich cashing out at just the right moment… but a massive market correction is coming. And since so many people have been laid off thanks to AI... it's gonna be fucking ugly when it happens.

Mainstream music and entertainment media in general has become so derivative and devoid of risk-taking that it's not surprising LLM's can easily replicate abundant garbage training data. I still buy music and I would not knowingly pay money for AI-generated music, and given my niche tastes I am not terribly concerned here.

I am concerned about my job prospects as a scientist that's been out of work for half a year though, because all of the alternative avenues of employment I have thought of have either disappeared due to cuts or ceased to hire junior people to train and build up. :oldryan:

battles if they sucked and had a dumb gimmick instead of being good and fun

though in truth i actually think the visuals would be cool if they just toned it down. ditch the bodypaint and stupid masks and it works

that angine de poitrine music is actually boring as shit, it's microtonal guitar with goofy costumes. it's crazy to see this being praised as some kind of answer to ai music. i feel like this is what ai would spit out if you asked it to make something 'weird'

maybe sumac or kayo dot need to put on big costumes :redneck: :oldryan:
