Worst year of my fucking life. 2026 would really have to try and top it.

agreed 2025 wasn't great, overall cloud of mum's terminal illness was the main downer, otherwise i had some good times and achievements around that when i could

let's do resolutions for 2026

1. get below 90kg
2. secure a new job
3. get a mortgage on a house
4. stop my marriage from falling apart

the effects of prioritising my mother and my sister over my wife are only getting harder to deal with, it's a delicate balance to calibrate, sadness all round, on my mother's face, my sister's face, my wife's face, about this whole situation

for the most part it sucked but in december, i managed to get a new jobbins where the pay is literally twice compared to the old workplace so it...add to that the high school reunions and 2025 managed to win for me towards the end

i'm looking to invest into something this year and hopefully start something that can potentially be a source of passive income

My cousin died mid November, from cirrhosis. Used to drink a vodka bottle daily for 20 or so years. We used to be close for a long time, but hadn't seen each other since COVID. He married, had kids, and then basically just stopped meeting us. I don't hold it against him. Got the word last year around the same time that he was suffering from liver failure, and the doctors had asked for a replacement. They apparently couldn't find a donor. Got the call on Nov 12th that he was dead. Really fucked us all up. The strange bit is, his father passed when he was 32 when my cousin was the same age as his own kid is right now (around 5 years old).

That, and David Lynch dying. So, yeah, fuck 2025.

damn dude, sorry to hear about your cousin, that's just too much booze :santa:

as some people say, the drugs just didn't agree with him. if he was into heroin he probably would have been dead at 19. are things going to be OK for his kids? if this is lahore i'm thinking his widow is going to have a hard time remarrying

I had a bloody start of the year, after that most of 2025 was okay but a little dull. The 24/7 gym was a find. I want to squarsh 220 this year. I got in a bar fight this summer but it was with chess players so it was polite. I saw some nice bands. Mum turned 91. I lost three fish tragically but eleven were born. If I travel this year I hope to get passed Belgium, maybe even go to Portugal to vist family.

I don't know. It was incredibly surreal seeing his body lie on the side, with everyone mourning, and his two kids playing around. He didn't have any sibling either. Just really hurts seeing his mother and wife. Ugh. I'm hoping they can somehow move on in time.

And yes, this was in Lahore.

yeah last year fucking blew. got my heart broken, had a thieving squatter ruining my life, and then lost my apartment almost straight after i got rid of him, all in the early stretches. it is not the worst year you can have and many good things happened. but i got completely flattened and for quite a long time regressed badly and it’s taken a lot to recover from that

i am trying to go into 2026 with a sense of optimism but many things imperil it at the outset

for me - the beginning of the year started off shit at work, then got marginally better and seemed to be going well from like may - october, then it just took a massive shit during the november / december holidays to the point that I nearly resigned without having something else lined up. it had nothing to do with being burned out or anything like that and everything to do with new idiotic policies that were implemented at the absolute worst time that tanked morale and efficiency across the board. resigning could still happen if things don't improve, but I'm trying to be realistic about it even though i've had all the positivity sucked out of me.
In february I went to visit my sister in law in upstate new york and had multiple near death experiences while driving through a fucking blizzard in the mountains because the car they rented us didn't have 4 wheel drive like we requested and lost control several times, resulting in us having to dig ourselves out at fucking night more than once - a 2.5 hour drive ended up taking 12 hours. then when I came back to work a week later the place apparently was on fire (not literally), which made me lose all faith in my coworkers and bosses above me as I was stuck picking up the pieces afterwards since the department is ultimately my responsibility.
In march my wife was diagnosed with cancer and spent the rest of the year undergoing surgeries and treatments, all of our plans got put on hold as a result. it seems like she might have beaten it, but treatment will be ongoing for a long time.
the year prior we put down our old cat that we had since 2007, this year our other elderly cat that we've had since about the same time when she was one month old has not been doing so great - she's still with us but who knows for how much longer. my wife will be devastated when this cat passes as they are very close.
on top of all that, 4 extended family members passed away this year and my immediate family has not been doing so hot either.
and don't even get me started on the state of america right now, i've given up all hope that things won't somehow get worse each and every day with the current crop of assholes in charge.

the only positives from last year is that I'm making more money than I ever have and had enough disposable income to do most of what I would like - went to a lot of concerts which for an evening would bring some enjoyment at least. well, except for breaking my foot - that kind of sucked for about 8 weeks.

sigh... of the things I can actually control, I think a new job/career might be in the cards for this year. just have to be strategic about it as the economy itself isn't exactly doing so great either.

trying to remain positive, but shit ain't easy. :)

I concur with everyone that 2025 was a real piece of shit. Possibly the worst year of my entire life. But I deal with my problems like a man, like an IRONMAN.

WE SHALL OVERCOME.

I remember being right into Vader in the days of yore. Litany was the last album I remember liking. Lost interest after that

They've always seemed like a solid live act. Never had the opportunity to catch them though
