IMO skip requiem for a dream, if you want punishing cinema there are far better filmmakers. aronofsky is too self-important and moralizing to make it work well. lars von trier and michael haneke are a couple of the notable entry points here. credit to aronofsky though he at least cops to quoting satoshi kon here, unlike thieving christopher nolan
run don't walk to alien/the shining, however
the list of classics i haven't seen is very, very long and i am frequently shamed by a fellating lover for this. i haven't seen the exorcist or the godfather or a handful of the 'essential' scorseses, i have not seen the gremlins films, i have not seen rosemary's baby, i have not seen predator, the list is endless and i get overwhelmed just trying to think of what's on it
someday i'll catch up on more of them, but i am generally focusing my viewing more heavily on non-hollywood stuff

It is cursed for me. Every time I try to watch it something urgent comes up and I can’t
Stormy predator is a must it is classic 80s cheese and super fun
Zim the Shining is probably my davorite movie. I wrote half my college papers on it I love it that much. It is one of yhose I know very few who like it the first time they watch it it seems to be one that grows on you as you pick up different meanings to each scene.

This really needs to be rectified post-haste. If I could see a movie again for the first time, this is high on that list.

Add The Haunting from ‘63 to that list, so fucking good I watch it every October.
Also had the chance to see Nosferatu last year in a theater with a live orchestra - that was cool.

As far as films I haven’t seen - there’s probably a good chunk of “cult classic” films from the 70s-gloryhole era that I haven’t seen.

Metropolis. I started on it once but lost focus. But this is something I would like judging from the description. It' s almost a hundred years old now

the sheer scale of some of those old movie sets is always impressive. even with the use of miniatures, they still had to build out some full scale sets - which I don't think anyone has done for the past 40 years at least.

This is one of the rare ones where the remake is as strong as the original.
