i am simply existing, mostly on autopilot. still looking for a house for the third year in a row. burnt out, yada yada

this summer has kinda sucked, had a bunch of plans fall through, persistent injury has kept me from being as active as i want and i've regained a little bit of weight. i'm mostly fine i guess, just bored, in a rut and eager for the fall 'cuz i have a bunch of things coming up that probably will not fall through

This year has been pretty so-so for the most part. Have been dealing with some pretty heavy mental burnout of late though.

Been hard for me to actually do my job because I get pulled to cover other people. Finally confronted my boss about this and that I should be compensated in some way if I'm covering other parts of the department at the expense of not being able to grow business to grow my paycheck. Immediately defensive and responded with a why the fuck should I figure out how to pay you for a few days on the counter at a time? Told me if I don't like it, I can just fucking quit. I almost hauled off and knocked his old off his god damn shoulders.

So yeah, now I'm sat at not my desk getting compensated incorrectly and looking for a new job.

I didn't want to jump directly over his head to address the issue. That's still an option at this point, but I didn't think he'd react how he did.

I'm still surviving, but it's just about paycheck to paycheck right now for paying my bills, given the tough situation I'm in having to both pay the ex wife a sizable monthly settlement plus pay the mortgage on the house I hadn't intended to pay for alone. But I am resilient and things are currently stable because of this rental side hustle I've got going.

Each month, I'm left with around $2,500 cash balance in the bank as a buffer but that's about it. My monthly costs are about $9,000 - that's right, EACH MONTH. But this pain is going to last only until March next year and then I'll be free, free at last.

I wish my stocks would recover to the original value I bought them at so that I could sell them have some more breathing room. I got too much money tied up there I can't even use unless I sell it and make a near-fifty percent loss, the idea of which is abhorrent to me.

I'm fine, I guess? Inflation has hit us hard over the last two years, and the Government that came in recently is doing its best to fuck us more with inflated bills month in, month out. Don't see how things will improve as there have been some court rulings in recent days that will create even further political problems, leading to further economic disaster.

No, I'm a student again. Pivoted to a midlife career change. Social Work major, Sociology minor. Masters in a few years and then the clinical license grind. Then private practice as a therapist.

my mother is a social worker

she has a master's in child psychotherapy and works in behaviour support now, still at the coalface often but running teams for supporting people with ASD and other complex needs, neurodivergency etc.

i couldnt do social work and behavior therapy. but i think they deserve more pay than they get

I worked social work adjacent in senior nutrition. That particular company was dead ended. Corporate buyouts and shitty company culture seeped in. I jumped ship, took some time on savings (and some door dashing) to think about what I wanted to do, and I decided social work adjacent wasn't good enough.

It requires a masters in Social Work, Psychology, or a related mental health focus, 3000 supervised hours in the field, and a license exam. The supervised hours, exam, and degree program requirements vary by state.

Yeah, I finish that in a year and a half and then begin the grad program. A lot of my older credits transferred into this program cleanly. My advisor wants me on the 1 year accelerated track. Our program has an 89% hire rate from senior internships at a few local agencies, too, and there is such an abundance of wait-listed clientbase that there wont even be the possibility of a client shortage for a long, long time. Last semester was 4.0 and this one is off to a great start. It's wild the difference that giving a fuck about the course material can make.
