RIP Key bridge. Last report I saw was 7 vehicles in the water and 20 people missing. This all just happened a few hours ago.

This is going to absolutely fuck people up here for probably the next decade.

Holy shit. Hopefully all missing were not fatalities but I'm assuming that's not very likely :frown:

Shit is fucking wild. I've gone over that bridge thousands and thousands of times. It's so strange that it's just gone.

This isn't just going to have a huge impact on Maryland. Sure we are going to get absolutely fucked by it but so will other states. There's roughly 100k jobs wrapped up in the ports, people are gonna end up being laid off cause of this shit. Baltimore is also a huge port when it comes to getting things into the country. This also directly impacts a USCG shipyard just a few miles away from the bridge.

President Joe Biden said Tuesday he wants the federal government to bare the full cost of rebuilding the Francis Scott Key bridge after it collapsed in Baltimore Tuesday morning.

"It's my intention that the federal government will pay for the entire cost of reconstructing that bridge," Biden said from the White House. "I expect the Congress to support my effort -- this is going to take some time."

This is gonna get real interesting.

this doesn't surprise me at all. I'm not all that familiar with the area but after looking it up on google maps earlier and saw it's location....yikes. the entire Baltimore harbor/port is blocked so it's of vital strategic and economic importance that it gets cleared and rebuilt ASAP.

I can't even begin to imagine the impact of what the ports being closed would look like on a state level let alone a national one.

Search and rescue is officially called off. 6 presumed dead :homework:. Waters probably in the low to mid 40s, no way anyone was gonna be able to survive in that for any extended period of time.

Just a couple of hours later and this would have been so much worse. Saw estimates that 35000-40000 travel across that bridge daily.

I think the may day message that was sent gave authorities a heads-up to close down traffic to the bridge before too many people got there or something.

all indian crew on the boat, and seems the six who died were road repair guys, mexican and guatemalan-- so no US citizens involved, let alone casualties? it had a pilot, maybe that hard-on bearer has to be US

In the raw footage that Ryan posted I think you can make out the lights of the work crew vehicles parked on the bridge. Shit happened so fast they didn’t stand a god damn chance….

I saw it here first and then on reddit. Don’t ever watch the news so I don’t know how it’s been covered.
