tells us the story of his divorce when he feels up to it and contextualises his whiskey-hiding marriage within the longer journey of his life, including videogames, marxism, and heavy metal

What the fuck do you want me to say? It's a divorce with all the bullshit that comes with it.
I'm going to be 40 next year, single, not pretty anymore with male-pattern baldness and a puffy old person face, and will be less sure of my self and my future. I'm going to lose some money in the property division, trying and failing at getting the over-priced house sold, and to top it all off I'm still living in the same house in separate rooms with my soon to be ex-wife. The court decision is imminent. Since I work from home, I have almost no social circle, I'm never around people, all alone, no support network except one person here in Dallas, and family thousands of miles away.

You can always go out by yourself. Maybe take a stroll somewhere or go see a band at a show somewhere by yourself. I do these things and it's quite fun. Also, you don't have to worry about driving to drop someone off at their place.
