If you REALLY want to, don't trust on motivation. Trust on discipline.

i've been recording more pieces of ideas lately and i also think i finally have a band name i like
thinking ahead of stuff a lot too like whether or not i want to go to a studio or just record guitar/vox at home, pay for some session drums, and send the mix off. kind of leaning towards that.
vahmpy, do you know if it's common for someone to record a good demo and see if it gets any attention and then actually re-record it in a studio setting? or would that just be a huge waste of time

Finish that album, Zim
Though I do understand the sard when it comes to doing everything by yourself. One of these days I'll get around to programming drums and actually recording more than ~2 minutes of riffs
i think about it constantly, really need to discipline myself to work on it. i fantasize about playing live all the time

I advise you not to give a shit about what is common. Follow what feels right for you. There is no right or wrong here.
Some bands or artists do it like that, yes. Where the demo is an EP of 3 songs for example.
Then when budget is bigger, record the full length with the experience you have gained during the EP and the release of that.
I think Vitriol kind of went that way but not sure.
Nowadays it's whatever works for you and what budget there is to work with. There are literally no rules.

Finding the right people to work with is a great deal too.
They will have a network as well if they're serious. Which might be helpful for you.
The music, the progress of writing, the quality, the sound, literally EVERYTHING to the smallest detail can improve vastly when working together with the right people.

i was actually wondering recently if it would be a good idea to do something like a 3 song demo and release that to establish the project and get a little attention. i already have the band name and a few songs more or less finished, it wouldn't be too much work to polish those.
i guess i'm overly worried about making the wrong moves and what not. the competition seems so fierce these days with new music coming out constantly. i'm not starved for attention or anything like that but i don't want to waste anyone's time, i want to do something that is interesting and fun and worth listening to

But do this for you and yourself only.
Typing all this stuff is a pain in the ass, jump on the discord with me if you want. We can have a voice chat there some time.
