can I ask you yankee fella's here what you think of his accent? to my ignorant ears he's on a par with Dick Van Dyke's English accent...very...very..very poor.

he fooled me before i knew that wasn't his real way of speaking. but i did think it was odd, he never stopped sounding sarcastic and over/harshly pronouncing some words.

i'm guessing because it's really really formulaic and the only notable character is the eponymous one (i still like it, though

)

Actually, he's on par with Gary Oldman for "the only guys whose American accent actually sounds real." Christian Bale had me fooled for a little while, but I did notice that he still moves his mouth like a Brit.
But yeah, Hugh Laurie sounds 100% genuine.

That's because his character is always like that; over-pronouncing words is a big part of sounding sarcastic.

yah i saw a letterman interview where he commented on how his house persona sometimes appears in his normal personality. also, he said that he is practicing boxing, and is sometimes tired of the eastern religious attitude of "be kind to everyone." so i bet house's personality is a nice release for hugh from being always being a good, proper, and polite citizen. cuz he is a good actor, and his job in house is geniune..transgressive, but geniune.

Transgressive?
It's almost transcendent.

He goes beyond his role as an actor.

well, i still think you might be fucking with me. but i agree if you're serious, i feel like its a lesson in sociology every time you watch the hard-on bearer. he's the nietzchian overman. and whats best about it is, hugh doesn't just portray a character. he's a real actor. its no gimmick. its always real and honest expression. i'd say its one of the best shows ever, right next to the sopranos and big love (from what i've seen). dextrose is cool, but kinda narrow and narcissistic.

Every week he becomes House.
He flows through his performances like a young Kiefer Sutherland.
Some man.
