Do you guys still buy CDs?

I stumbled upon an old "To Buy" list and realized I haven't bought a CD in a few years.

At this point I think helping out the band would be the only reason to continue doing it since a) I only listen to CDs in the car but rarely drive and b) I've gotten tired of accumulating stuff.

Oh and here's the list I found:

Absu - The Son of Tiphareth

Autopsy - Severed Survival

Beethoven - Egmont

King Crimson - Starless and Bible Black

King Crimson - The Nightwatch

Immolation - Dawn of Possession

Camel - Mirage

Jaaportit - Uminessa

Voivod - Nothingface

Elton John - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Honkey Chateau, Captain Fantastic..., Tumbleweed Connection,

Madman Across the Water

Empyrium - Where at Night the Wood Grouse Plays

Suffocation - Effigy of the Forgotten

Suffocation - Breeding the Spawn

Bathory - Under the Sign of the Black Mark

Kraftwerk - Autobahn

Kraftwerk - Trans-Europe Express

Monstrosity - Millenium

Monstrosity - Imperial Doom

Rottrevore - Iniquitous

Gorguts - Considered Dead

Nuclear ASsault - Game Over

Trio Mediaeval - Folk Songs

Gordian Knot - Emergent

Asgard - To a Golden Age

Beherit - Drawing Down the Moon

Biosphere - Substrata

Cianide - A descent into Hell

Sinister - Hate, Cross the Styx

The Chasm - Farseeing...

I still buy them, always will. Love getting the artwork/booklet and reading the linear notes and lyrics. Nothing like it in my opinion.

I definitely agree with this. For a while I had one of those desks with a removable glass top, and I was able to evenly fit about 50 album covers under it. There were no gaps in between them, the glass held everything in place, and it looked incredible. Basically like a much larger version of this picture I put together in my early teens:

(if it isn't already obvious I've been going through old files on my computer)

It also just occurred to me that I used to piece together "To Buy" lists from the "Thanx" section of bands I liked. :redneck: A surprising number of good finds came from it.

I got my computer when I was 9 and already knew how to download music. I'm a bad fan. :frown:

It's not like most artists even get anywhere remotely close to a fair cut.

It was still hard not to cringe after reading that. I feel old and bad for those poor, poor musicians.

Not for the time being as I end up paying twice the amount of the cd due to shipping costs where I live. I do buy mp3 records from bands I like as they come out, if they're on a distributor that actually gives them revenue (ie: not itunes), otherwise I put off buying records until I go visit the US. The last few Nile, HE and ND cds are on the to buy list.

+1. However, if Amazon/Play sold MP3 albums with the booklets I doubt I'd buy a cd again.

there should have been a napalm death / godflesh / fear factory tour in 1992 and burton could have done all the vocals himself

wait wait wait wait wait wait. "that is about 100% true about metallica ripping godflesh's artwork off and kirk only saying he thinks godflesh are one of the heaviest bands of all time to try and placate them," is that website's response to the contention that metallica stole artwork from a godflesh video for the reload packaging? because a) the reload packaging is 100% full of live pictures from the load tour, and b) two paragraphs later that cunt says

It seems that the next Metallica album cover-1996's " Load" utilised the same artists work, no doubt influenced by Godflesh's video years earlier.I guess Justin felt he had given kirk the idea, which is no doubt true, i dont actually think any of Godflesh 's art itself was used by Metallica tho, that would be cheesy. It was the idea of using Serrano in the first place he was upset about.

so it sounds like justin thought he gave metallica the idea to use serrano artwork even though lars had been into him for years and blah blah blah none of this is important

again, i wouldn't use the word "awesome" to describe metallica nowadays and i am well beyond my metallica fanboi days but that "ask twatface" or whatever it's called looks to me like a horseshit attempt at making fun of the millionaire rock stars

:fuckoff:

i blame fukket and that stupid website

also stupid metallica for never inviting godflesh to tour with them in the back in the day

and stupid godflesh for having been too cool to say yes

stupid

no although they had some huge and really expensive version in the boxset section, it was like $100 or something. it's like the label has no idea who their target audience is; you could buy at least 400 cans of natural light with that kind of money. but, i guess it was sufficiently large that you could cave your common-law wife's head in with it, so there's also that.

You can list many things but ultimately it boils down to larger artwork and better sound.

I had an "oh yeah, never thought of that" moment when I first got an earful about cover art and the size of the physical product. Try looking at Elton John's "Captain Fantastic..." layout on CD vs. vinyl for a not so obvious but still simple example.
