The BNP

Looks like the UK is having what we aussies call a 'Pauline Hanson moment' all of their own - the British National Party has won a few seats and it even looks like they'll have a representative in the EU parliament!

In the long run, I think this will be good for Britain. The more popular these clowns become, the more the Government will be forced to discuss issues such as immigration, which is a discussion everyone over here is dying to have but afraid to...the poms are a nancy lot who cannot have a sensible discussion about race and immigration without someone foaming at the mouth and labelling everyone racists and nazis.

And so it is that i'm not surprised to see this:

Just like with the gloryhole era bigoted fuckwit populist aussie politician Pauline Hanson, I find myself uncomfortable with some of the things dudes on 'my side' are saying:

Protest organiser Weyman Bennett, national secretary of Unite Against Fascism, said: "The majority of people did not vote for the BNP, they did not vote at all. The BNP was able to dupe them into saying that they had an answer to people's problems.

"They presented themselves as a mainstream party. The reality was because the turnout was so low, they actually got elected."

In other words people did not vote in the BNP...but then the BNP duped them into voting for them? And they got elected because the turnout was low? As opposed to other elections and parties? Fucking hell.

If this plays out like Australia did, then the more these simpletons harass and shut-down these now-popularly elected people, the more people will flock to the elected's cause. They will then get bigger and stronger until people and media actually let them speak and debate them and reveal how thick they are, instead of writing them off as fascists. Gotta let them speak first to show how dumb their ideas are.

Interesting times. Any thoughts, anyone?

In my very humble opinion, Britain desperately needs to have some discussion about immigration. They seem far too eager to appease certain radical interests.

Yup.

And to make it clear, I'm totally against the BNP. Hell, they'd probably want me out of here.

But like Australia, the UK is going to find out that if you refuse to discuss, debate, or address any perceptions about immigration and race someone nutjob will come along and bag electorate after electorate until you do.

I've often thought that the US has an immigration problem and should close the borders up, but on further ponderance, I've concluded that this is not so. The legal immigrants are not the problem! "Closing" the border would not fix it. It is the same as gun control. Illegal immigrants didn't get here through the proper channels and the bulk of illegal firearms used in gang violence weren't purchased at a store. These things were accomplished under the radar and would continue to be no matter what the laws state.

This does not really address the politic rumblings in the UK right now (of which I get an earful about listening to World Service every morning) but it reminded me of it when HbW mentioned immigration.

The BNP are one of those parties that on the face of it actually have a couple of good ideas, but then they ruin it with stuff like "NO MEDICAL CARE FOR WOG KIDS!"

So have a few other european countries. These groups could actually have some influence in EU parliament if they co-ordinated...which would be a bit difficult seeing as though their core values would be keeping the nationalities of their cohorts out of their respective countries.

Reminds me of that Bill Hicks sketch:

"People who hate people! Come together"

"NO!!"
