My theater plays a lot of classics. The catch is they are at weird times like 1 pm on a tuesday but you can get in for $6.

Re: Now Watching
Feb is Carpenter month next week Big Trouble in Little China and week after that They Live. I didn’t care for They Live so won’t see that one. I think its a weird choice for flashback cinema because it is very dated in my opinion. There are parts in Escape from New York and Big Trouble that are too but overall still fun movies.
The Thing we all know still holds up perfectly.

anatomy of a fall received a rave review from a fellating lover, and perfect days looks excellent as well. aside from those two, i think the boy and the heron & killers of the flower moon are the only other oscar nominated things i am interested in.happiness and harmony wrote: ↑12 Feb 2024, 23:50i am gonna watch another one of these hoebag academy award-nominated motion pictures soon, the only question is which one![]()

the first 2/3 of killers of the flower moon are a really good martin scorsese movie across the boardjawn galliano wrote: ↑13 Feb 2024, 22:39'an interesting failure' sounds like something i'd watch but be glad to not have paid $20 to see in the theater
the remaining 1/3 is a near-total slog, there's very little in the way of drama or tension or intriguing character ambiguity. (aesthetic beauty is about the lone holdover)
and while there is about as much native language and culture in it as you can have without the movie being made by actual native people, it's still a movie made by not actual native people, so you run up against problems of perspective real fast and as the thing goes on for all 206 minutes those problems only grow
it's worth watching for a bunch of reasons though. lily gladstone foremost among them

I started watching the Halo series that’s in season 2 right now. Never really got into the video game lore that much so don’t give a fuck if it’s reflective or not - but I do find myself enjoying it. So far so good.

Re: Now Watching
you have now seen more of his films than me
my big phase was 2004-2010 around then, my favourite remains lisztomania
i started when a teacher showed us Tommy in high school for drama class and then i played Tommy in a rendition of Pinball Wizard on stage in front of the whole school at age 17. good fun

i have seen tommy but not since i was a kid and had no concept of directors generally and certainly not of ken russell in particular
i hadn't seen anything else of his until i saw crimes of passion a few months back
lisztomania sadly is not in rotation, but i have the boy fellating lover, gothic and salome's last dance on deck

Bingeing my way through all 5 seasons of 'The Handmaid's Tale'...it's excellent but grim, especially given that the current crime cartel masquerading as the Republican Party literally want to turn America into Gilead if they can get Diaper Dementia Donnie back in.
