Some years ago, despite my better judgement, on the basis of such views "the game got better after patches and mods" I bought Elder Scrolls Skyrim, and man was it one of the most boring, souless games I have ever played. I have a feeling Cyber Punk will be a similar mistake.

skyrim is not a good game. massively overrated and incredibly dull that doesnt touch you in any way emotionally.

I am currently alternating between this, Starfield, and Baldur's Gate 3.

i don't think skyrim is a bad game, i've just never liked melee combat in any first person game, it always feels so slow and clunky. i've heard magic is the best way to play skyrim but never tried it

man the consensus on starfield is that it's dull and boring as fuck. i know the next elder scrolls is years old but that does not bode well

played maybe an hour of vanilla, haven't booted my gaming pc in months. not gonna be fucking with this one i reckon
also skyrim as a videogame sucked. totally trivial, they could've just removed gameplay and it wouldn't have fundamentally changed the experience all that much.

In regards with Starfield, played 7 or 8 hours and I found the structure so tedious.
Constantly in menus, going from place to place, removed the only nice thing about Skyrim was the time between town, discovering, exploring.

Re: any one play phantom liberty?
At this point, I've put almost 50 hours in Starfield. I've done a lot of side quests, got a good ship, nice weapons, and lots of credits and it's all become really stale for me. The universal exploration gets old quickly as you'll soon realise you've spent most of your time raiding the same planets and the same bases or starstations. The whole limitless universal exploration theme that it's riding on is a bunch of bull. Doing the main quest bores me almost immediately.
This made me reinstall Oblivion again just to get my Bethesda first person RPG fix done right. I've got the GOTY deluxe edition and boy it's sooo much better than Starfield.

yeah this game feels like a smokescreen, they kinda went backwards despite having "more" to explore.

If you want a really good Bethesda game look no further than Morrowind.shadowalk wrote: ↑14 Oct 2023, 11:57At this point, I've put almost 50 hours in Starfield. I have played Morrowind extensively back in the day but its mechanics are just too dated for me. Oblivion is the best balance of quality and ease-of-life features between Morrowind/Oblivion/Skyrim.

Re: any one play phantom liberty?
i have now played it the cyberpunk 2077 phantom liberty and i can report that i enjoyed it VERY VERY MUCH
not a great role playing game by any means but a damn great game full stop, i appreciated it VERY VERY MUCH
i also VERY MUCH liked its metal and rock aesthetic and indebtedness
what i liked the least about it is keanu reeves, i had no idea that was what the whole game was going to be about, it took me a while to wake up to it: "so ... this whole game is about my PC's brain being invaded by keanu reeves?!" definitely one of the stranger premises of any game i've played

Not really that strange of a premise if you've read cyberpunk literature, especially Neuromancer and the sequels.User wrote: ↑27 Oct 2025, 08:56i have now played it the cyberpunk 2077 phantom liberty and i can report that i enjoyed it VERY VERY MUCH

the point is not that there' something special about the brain split narrative, the weird thing for me is that it was keanu reeves, and the whole narrative is about keanu reeves taking over your brain. not what you expect from an FPS

i think the keanu thing was jarring at first but as someone who has played the base game 4/5 times it definitely is something ive come to appreciate more.
current playthrough i am working on is my second time with the dlc, doing a new build. i really love this game, just everything about it and i like the DLC is different tonally.

Re: any one play phantom liberty?
i finished it including phantom liberty yesterday. 84 hours. i did all the quests (that i discovered) except for stealing all the cars. i still had some cars i couldn't buy but honestly i wasn't interested in any new cars once i could afford the caliburn, that fit my outfit, style, and allowed me to outperform everyone and anything in car-related gameplay.
i played a corpo, i followed all mission orders thoroughly, executed every single person who begged for mercy, and i took the corpo arasaka ending and turned myself into an engram

i want to play nomad, full nomad, fuck the corpos, be best friends with johnny (i resisted him from the beginning and he was my antagonist in my play-through), hang out in the badlands most of the time, drive a truck, and dress like a mercenary who detests city life. one day

Re: any one play phantom liberty?
i thought the whole thing was a piece of piss from beginning to end, there were no consequences to stuffing up your stealth cos you could always zero the whole missions' enemies without breaking a sweat, you had massive manoeuvrability, could literally double your HP with one implant, can see through walls, slow down time, and the enemies don't keep up with all that buffing, it was ridiculous. fun to play but not challenging in the least. i played it on the second-hardest difficulty, i never go into a new game on the hardest difficulty cos i assume it is for players who have already played the game once before. but i should have in this case

it's a problem with most games, there are zero stakes. you just glide effortlessly from start to finish, there is almost never even a hint of friction, and in the rare instance you do manage to lose you just rewind like two minutes and try again

Re: any one play phantom liberty?
i think there was definitely an element of this power fantasy to be had, look at the anime, its nuts in that regard.
i think the sandbox of the game is interesting enough to build on with more challenging combat. bear in mind they've not done anything like that. i never considered witcher to have good combat, infact, i think its the worst aspect of those games

Re: any one play phantom liberty?
I do have this installed and I do play it but after getting at around mid-way into the game, I find myself unable to sink long hours into this game thus I'm only playing it in short intervals. All I'm doing at this point is running around the city, killing gang members and getting their junk weapons and junk implants to sell. Then when you decide to do a mission, I get flat out bored with all the long-ass talking. Fallout New Vegas is a much better way in terms of getting into that repetitive cycle and that's why I just reinstalled that the other day and am having a blast.

Re: any one play phantom liberty?
phantom liberty absolutely missed a trick with its stupid map highlighting everything and the lack of many genuine side quests. I mean there's like 100 "side quests" but they're all signposted and come from fixers, magically appearing when you go to a certain street corner, there's very few based on dialogue, serendipity, investigation. it's a basic thing and would have made the city feel so much more alive. and compared to the fallout 4 / new vegas games the weapon customisation is pretty limited yeah.

I guess so, like two mod slots on some weapons? Ive just teneded to use unqiues really, but there is a huge balanced issue here
like i said i think its a fund combat sandbox but ultimately, i just like the vibe of the world, the characterse etc, the music.
i hope they do the next one justice
