What’s your average day look like food wise?

Post by droidspawn »

Thinking about doing some kind of diet, cutting back on garbage food but it’s all overwhelming and I’m looking for ideas or advice.

I quit smoking almost 5 years ago, been sober 37 days now, and if I quit my favorite foods I’ll literally have zero vices left. Ain’t married, no girlfriend, no kids, no mortgage, my mom and dogs are gone, no current job/career and no prospects that even remotely excite me. sounds silly but I feel like if I cut out my favorite foods I have nothing left. It’s probably the last thing in life that makes me somewhat happy or content. I know I need to change my diet but it’s definitely the hardest thing I’ve had to change thus far.

you don't have to necessarily cut out your favorite foods if you want to lose weight, you could start counting calories and set an amount not to pass every day.

you could also always do a cheat day on a diet, it would definitely give you something to look forward to every week

I lost 40 lbs over the course of a year simply by drastically cutting back the amount of soda I drink and cutting back portion sizes in addition to eating more balanced meals. So instead of eating just a dinner plate size of meat for example, I try to keep it to something just slightly bigger than a deck of cards and fill up on vegetables or carbs instead.
Nothing wrong with carbs like bread or pasta but try to balance it out with more vegetables to fill you up. Usually try to eat fruit for breakfast but will occasionally work it into dinner or lunch.
That’s not to say I still don’t eat crap.
Almost no fast food is consumed except maybe once a month or so. Chips and salsa, hot dogs, chicken wings, cookies and ice cream, etc are still eaten. Everything in moderation. :santa:

Good bread. Peanut butter, appelstroop.
cawfee, tea and water.
The occasional beer or whiskey on a weekend day.
Freshly cooked dinner, no take away or insta shit.
Fruit like bananas, oranges, etc. that I also make smoothies with.

Things I avoid:
Sugary drinks and soda’s.
Chocolate.
Cheese and other dairy products (unless on a pizza or ovendish) but this is because I have slight issues with dairy products.
Sweets and candy.
Fastfood.

I eat between 11 am and 7 pm mostly. Nothing before or after (intermittent fasting/time restricted eating/whatever... this works for me as a life style because ever since I started this daily some months ago, I have much more energy throughout the day and don’t have after dinner dips or caloric crashes). I also eat less overall and have less cravings.

Haha! For me, this is what works.
Of course too much sugar is bad for everyone :redneck:
Hey sometimes I eat fries and a burger, but I’ll make it myself.
Sometimes I’ll eat a little bit of dark chocolate but just not a huge fan.
It’s what I globally try to avoid. I actually don’t like soda’s anymore since I started avoiding them. I can enjoy a good cup of tea 10 times more.

I’m exaggerating too. I only drink pop maybe twice a month. I don’t buy except as a treat I’ll get one 20oz bottle once in a blue moon. I’m not a huge chocolate fan either. I’ll get a Reese’s or snickers about as much as a pop. The fast food and cheese is a problem though. I just love greasy, fried shit like fries, mozzarella sticks, chicken tenders, nachos, burgers, tacos, burritos, and pizza.

I love making fried egg and cheese sandwiches. I already do this except I usually break the yolk so it’s all flat. I typically use 3 eggs. And I’ll throw on a bunch of hot sauce. And extra fresh cracked pepper.

I’ve had 1,600 calories total the last 2 days. Tomorrow I’m bringing all my chips/crackers and p.asta/cereal to the local food shelter. If I quit smoking and drinking I can do this :santa:

Eating the same amount of calories but from healthy foods that your body has use for, will also make you lose weight. Provided you get enough physical excersize.

Good luck :xx:

Today I had 3 cheeseburger tacos for a total of 1,030 calories and I will consume a banana for a snack later for a total of 1,135 for the day. My goal is to stay at or below 1,200/day and limit carbs

Weighted myself this morning and I’m down 4.2 lbs just since Sunday but I’m assuming that’s just water weight.

For an average male to maintain their current weight, 2,500 calories a day is the recommendation. 2,000 cal a day if you want to lose 1 lb a week, 1,500 cal for 2 lbs a week. And since I’m the most sedentary person on the planet, I’m knocking off an extra 300 to 1,200 total. That is the recommended minimum amount a day. Once I start doing cardio again I’ll go up to 1,500 a day to account for the workout.

Discipline will create motivation. Motivation doesn’t just hit you out of nowhere.

When I don’t feel like working out, hike, run or go to jiu jitsu class I do it anyway and I feel better afterwards every time.*

Discipline begets discipline.

*except for today. Today I feel like shit.

Trust me you dont want to be 340 lbs. that was my motivation. Back down to 320 currently. My current goal is 225. Then 200. Then 175. Which is what I’m supposed to be at for my height.

I usually only eat twice per day, and sometimes only once if I'm not hungry when I get up. I almost never snack. If I do it's either a few handfuls of grapes or peanuts.

In the morning if I'm hungry I have a salad: chopped romaine lettuce, diced roma or campari tomatoes, some shaved turkey, feta or munster cheese, and some type of italian dressing.

For dinner I usually have what amounts to a breakfast burrito, except in a bowl. I change the meat on a nightly basis from chicken thighs, ground sausage, or ground beef. I have no idea if it's actually wholesome, but it's loaded with veggies, pretty low on carbs, and has little to no sugar. I bind everything with two eggs beaten in simmering salsa verde, and make it in two bowls with a different type of cheese in each one. I also add some sour cream and hot sauce.

Other than that I usually do just about the same thing except in the form of what amounts to a frittata with some bacon to go with it.

I'm actually usually home by 9:30 PM nowadays. But yes it is probably a remnant of the overnight days..I mean nights. I also forgot to add that I always include a diced up hard boiled egg in those salads :santa:

i have no routine, every day is different, because i have no steady job or ongoing commitments. i spend like 3-4 days of the week at the brewery, but then i do either mornings or afternoons which changes how i eat. then most of the food i eat is burmese, which has no calorie indexes that i know of. then i go away a lot and eat random, a week in a hotel here, in another country there, etc.

i know my diet in general isn't great, most of the time it is disproportionately high in carbs and oils. i don't eat much meat though. the one consistent thing is wherever i am i drink shitloads of beer. i put away about 20 litres a week of beer.

last year was a turning point for my metabolism. usually with this routine i have sat at about 83kgs/182lbs but now without changing anything i have gradually shifted to 87kgs/192lbs ... which technically puts me in the overweight category for my height/weight BMI
